The snow has yet to fall, but despite the unseasonably warm weather, the rich Holiday vibes that blanket the “Small Wonder” known as Maplewood Village entice even the most steadfast Scrooge to deck some halls. Beyond pure aesthetics, December is arguably one of Maplewood’s most magical months due to the wealth of community activities that find us convening at the center of town celebrate the various Holiday Traditions representative of our diverse community.

If you missed Santa’s grand arrival last Saturday, December 5th, rest assured that there is still time to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus at the Dicken’s Village in Ricalton’s Square, each Saturday from 1-4pm leading up to Christmas. Be sure to extend your Holiday Greetings to our furry friends from Jack’s Petting Zoo on Dec. 12th and 19th , and cozy up at Word’s Bookstore for a late afternoon story this Saturday, Dec 12th after tour the homes of the always intriguing, Dickens Village. Make sure not to return home until you flex your vocal muscles along to at least one seasonal carol with The Strollers. Still haven’t had enough? Return the following Saturday, Dec 19th, and do it all again! Hopefully you were there, but people were polishing of those latkes early celebrating the Festival of Lights in Ricalton Square at the annual Menorah Lighting.

Feeling Adventurous? Skip the cooking, grab an early dinner at any one of our hard to resist SoMa eateries, and head on over to the Holiday Lights display at The Turtle Back Zoo each night at 5pm, starting Friday, Dec. 11th. Your family will re-experience the magic of this familiar destination through a whole (new) glimmering lens.

Lack of Snow getting you down? Hop on 24 West, exit 7b and delight in the Peanuts themed “Ice Palace” now featured in The Mall at Short Hills. Experience snow how it should be, contained in a pristine dome with little cleanup. When you’re done make sure to snap a photo with the Man of the Hour, Santa!

No matter how the Holiday Spirit moves you, there are several opportunities to join in the festivities, start some new family traditions, and make this Holiday Season in SoMa one to remember!
